Water Bound (Book 1 of Sisters of the Heart Series) by Christine Feehan

Water Bound (Book 1 of Sisters of the Heart Series) by Christine Feehan

"The last thing Lev Prakenskii remembered was being lost in the swirling currents of the ocean and getting sucked deeper into the nothingness of a freezing black eddy off the coastal town of Sea Haven.  Just as quickly, just a miraculously, he was saved—pulled ashore by a beautiful stranger.  But Lev has no memory of who he is—or why he seems to possess the violent instincts of a trained killer.  All he knows is that he fears for his life, and for the life of his unexpected savior.

Her name is Rikki, a sea~urchin diver in Sea Haven.  She has always felt an affinity for the ocean, and for the seductive pull of the tides.  And now she feels drawn in the same way to the enigmatic man she rescued.  But soon they will be bound by something even
stronger, and their tantalizing secrets will engulf them both in a whirlpool of dizzying    passion and inescapable danger."  (Description provided by http://www.christinefeehan.com/water_bound/index.php)

1000 + Books to Read Rating:

This book is the beginning of a spin off series following up on the Drake Sisters series.

It follows Lev Prakenskii of the infamous Prakenskii brothers.

In the last book of the Drake Sisters series we learned that Lev is on a yacht body guarding a very dangerous man that Jackson, Ilya and Jonas are trying to take out. They recognize Lev and Lev gets away during the on board scuffle.

In this book we follow Lev during the aftermath of the Yacht sinking and his rescue by Sea Haven local Rikki. Rikki is a sea-urchin diver and was on a dive when a huge wave comes out of no where. She finds the most unexpected thing while she is tumbling through the water.. a man. This man is being brutally pounded by the waves and yet remains conscious enough to help Rikki save himself.

Rikki follows the rules of the Sea to the bone. She pulled this man, Lev, out of the water and he is her catch. Her's to keep, her's to protect.. even though he has lost his memory and is trying to kill the one person who is risking her life to save him.

Lev finds himself in a struggle within himself. Follow his training or follow his heart as he falls for Rikki.. the autistic, powerful, sea-urchin diver with many secrets. Secrets that may end up getting them both killed.

Fabulous story by a fabulous author. I am so excited that she created this spin-off to the Drake Sisters series as I fell in love with the locals in Sea Haven and now I get more. This book features characters from the previous books and is just as powerful and intriguing as the original series was.

This is a must read!

Water Bound (A Sea Haven Novel)

The Ghostwalker Series by Christine Feehan

Let me preface this book series review by saying that a) Christine Feehan is one my favorite authors, b) I am still, even though most everyone else is over it, really into vampires and c) this series is not about vampires. Combine all three of those things and I was trying to decide if I really wanted to read this series right now or if I wanted to skip on to the next Vampires series and get back to these later. My "Finish what you start" type personality made me read this series and I am VERY glad I did.

These books are about people with paranormal talents who have gone through extra ordinary things in there lifes.

The series starts off introducing us to Dr. Whitney, a very gifted scientist way before his time who conducted experiments on men in the military with paranormal talents to create 'Super Soldiers'. We are also introduced to his daughter, Lily Whitney, also a gifted scientist who was secretly experimented on by her 'father' when she was a mere toddler. Lily was adopted on the black market and tested among with many other little girls.

These books take us through the tainted yet gifted mind of a crazed scientist and his daughter, Lily, who battles him to make things better, or as best as they can be, for those her 'father' experimented on.

It is perhaps one of the most compelling, interesting and complex book series I have ever read. I can't even imagine the amount of time the Author must have spent researching to make sure each character, each situation was right for the reader.

I highly recommend this series if you are looking for mystery, romance, action, and a mix of the paranormal. If you are looking for a comedy, still pick this up and after you've read your comedy sit back with this!

Books in order:

Shadow Game (Ghostwalkers Book 1)
Mind Game (Ghostwalkers Book 2)
Night Game (Ghostwalkers Book 3)
Conspiracy Game (Ghostwalker Book 4)
Deadly Game (Ghostwalkers Book 5)
Predatory Game (Ghostwalkers Book 6)
Murder Game (Ghostwalkers Book 7)
Street Game (Ghostwalkers Book 8)

Ruthless Game (Book 9) is due out December 28th, 2010! After Christmas present? YEAH!

Drake Sisters Series by Christine Feehan

Drake Sisters series, another series by Christine Feehan.

This is probably my favorites series of her's so far. All of the characters really grab you. Sadly the series has come to an end but I do understand that there is a spin off series coming out of this. Woo Hoo!!

Here is descriptions of each book (in reading order) provided by the authors website.

Magic in the Wind (book 1):
"Sarah's coming home." Ever since Damon Wilder sought refuge in Sea Haven, he's heard the same breathless rumor pass the lips of nearly every local in the sleepy coastal town. Even the wind seems to whisper her name - a reverie so powerfully suggestive that it carries the curious Damon to Sarah's clifftop home, and seeks to shelter him there.
But Damon has not arrived alone. Two men have tracked him to Sea Haven, and into the shadows of Drake House, where Sarah hides her own secrets. And danger- as well as a desire more urgent than either has ever known- is just a whisper away...

Twilight before Christmas (book 2):
Bestselling novelist Kate Drake is one of seven sisters gifted with amazing powers of witchcraft. Returning home in time for her northern California town's annual Christmas pageant, Kate catches the spirit of the season and decides to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down historic mill. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a local contractor, doesn't mind working in the undeniably eerie house-not if it means getting closer to Kate. There's something about the quiet, sensual woman that powerfully attracts him.

When an earthquake cracks the mill's foundation and reveals a burial crypt, Kate senses that a centuries-old evil has been unleashed…and that it's coming after her. Though Matt vows to guard her from dusk till dawn, Kate knows she will have to summon all of her and her sisters' powers to battle the darkness threatening to destroy both Christmas and the gift of soul-searing passion her hometown hero wants her to keep forever…

Oceans of Fire (book 3):
As the third daughter in a magical bloodline, Abigail Drake was born with a mystical affinity for water, and possessed a particularly strong bond with dolphins. She spent her entire life studying them, learning from them, and swimming among them in the waters off her hometown of Sea Haven … Until the day Abby witnessed a cold-blooded murder on shore, and found herself fleeing for her life — right into the arms of Aleksandr Volstov. He’s an Interpol agent on the trail of stolen Russian antiquities, a relentless man who gets what he goes after — and the man who broke Abby’s heart. But he isn’t going to let the only woman he ever loved be placed in harm’s way — or slip away from his embrace…

Dangerous Tides (book 4):

Dr. Libby Drake is sensible and practical. To her more adventurous sisters, she’s always been the “good girl”. Certainly not the kind to attract the attention of a genius like Ty Derrick—until a tragic accident leaves the handsome biochemist at her mercy.
Acting on her uncanny ability to heal, she stirs in the reawakened Ty his own long-suppressed desires for the woman who saved his life. But he’s not the only man with designs on Libby Drake. Her miraculous and selfless power has also captured the attention of a dangerously influential admirer. He’s pursuing the elementally gifted beauty for his own wicked purpose. And he’s willing to go to deadly lengths to make it happen.

Safe Harbor (book 5):

One of seven daughters in a line of extraordinary women, Hannah Drake has been the elusive object of affection for Jonas Harrington for as long as the young man can remember. If only the stunning super-model was driven by a passion other than her career. But Jonas isn’t the only one with desires for Hannah.
From the shadows has emerged a vengeful figure who stalks the beauty with one terrifying purpose: to strip her of all she is and destroy her. Only one man was destined as her protection. Now, out of a storm of danger, Jonas must guide the woman he loves from a sinister darkness that threatens not only Hannah, but the entire Drake family.

Turbulent Sea (book 6):

The star: Joley Drake was born with a legacy of unexpected magical gifts, but it was the gift of singing that made her an overnight sensation—a rock and roll goddess trapped by fame, fortune, and ambition. Heated by the flush of success, Joley could have any man she wanted. But there’s only man who can give her what she really needs.
The bodyguard: Ilya Prakenskii, cool, inscrutable, dangerously sexy, and working in the shadow of his infamous reputation—that of a secret Russian hit man on the payroll of a notorious mobster. He’s the last man Joley should get close to, yet when her life is threatened on tour she has nowhere left to turn. But in the seductive safe keep of Ilya’s embrace, is Joley really as secure as she imagines?

Hidden Currents (book 7):
From afar, Sheriff Jackson Deveau has always loved Elle Drake, the youngest telepath of seven sisters. After a long time away she’s finally returning home to the small coastal village of Sea Haven. But someone has been following Elle, someone who doesn’t want her to make it back. And when Elle fails to arrive, her disappearance strikes fear in the hearts of everyone who loves her. Now it’s left to Jackson to uncover the mystery of Elle’s vanishing, and rescue her from an unseen danger. But Sea Haven is no longer safe for anyone, and it’ll take the powers of all the Drake sisters and their men to survive the coming storm.

This is really a MUST read series!

The Leopard Series by Christine Feehan

Another series by the fab writer Christine Feehan.

After reading her Carpathian series, which does have a book that  features part of the leopard species/story in it, I thought I'd give her leopard series a whirl and I'm very glad I did.

The Awaking starts off the series and it is actually a short story about a woman, Maggie, who is lead to the forest to find out information about her dead parents and ends up finding herself in more ways than one. It was a well written short story and I'm glad that this was not the end of the leopard series (ha wouldn't be series if it ended there now would it.)

Wild Rain, the second book in the series, follow Rachel, a young woman on the run with a million dollar price tag on her head. She fakes her own death and finds herself in the middle of the rain forest living in the home of a very dangerous man. Rio returns to his home to find this young woman whom he believes was sent to kill him. Neither counted on falling in love with each other and risk their lives trying to eliminate the threat from Rachel. Very enjoyable second entry to the series.

Burning Wild, the third book in the series, was FANTASTIC. I've read a lot of reviews that haven't been
favorable.. and granted this isn't a pretty love story but it's a story that really gets you. I couldn't put this book down. Now I know I've said that before.. but no really.. if I had to put this book down for any amount of time I was thinking about the book, speculating what was coming next, reflecting on what I just read. It truly got me.. hook line and sinker. Whats the book about? A disturbed young man who is raised by an evil sadistic family who falls in love with a woman that turns his life completely around while teaching him about love, how to love and how to be loved.

Wild fire, the fourth book in the series, was a bit slow in the beginning, better in the middle.. and really picked up in the end. After coming off the previous page turner I was a bit disappointed but by the end of the book I was again captured by story  The story revolves around a couple, Isabeau and Connor, with a multitude of issues involving trust, betrayal and love. Connor played a part in the death of Isabeau's father and used her to get close to him during a mission. Neither knew at the time that they were destined to be with each other. Isabeau reaches out for Connor and his team to rescue kids that were kidnapped by a big time drug dealer. The reunited couple fall in love all over again and make one hell of team in their fight to rescue the children.

I'm really anxious to read the next entry in this series.. though I haven't seen or heard any news about when that may be! Hopefully the series continues for quite a few more books!

Books, Books and more Books.. aka What I'm currently reading

Just so you know, anyone who does actually visit and read this, the down time between blog posts is because I'm currently reading a series.

I had thought at once to blog about each book.. but that's a lot of time and a lot of blogs to do. So if I'm reading a series I wait until I've caught up/finished the series before posting. Saves us both time don't you think? I do.

I am currently reading the 4th book of the Leopard Series by Christine Feehan. I'll be blogging about that very soon..

The next books I have lined up waiting to be read are:

- Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton (the newest addition to the Anita Blake series)
- The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner  by Stephanie Meye (the newest addition to the Twilight series releases June 5th)
- The Drake Sisters Series by Christine Feehan
- The Ghostwalker Series by Christine Feehan

This, of course, may change due to release dates on other books that I've got my eye on and how fast I devour the above books. :o)

Carpathian Series by Christine Feehan

The Carpathian Series also known as the Dark Series is one of the longest series I have read to date. This series has a total of 20 books with another coming out in in late 2010.

I've had very mixed feelings about the books and even now, while in the midst of finishing the 20th book, am still quite conflicted.

Upon reading the first book "Dark Prince" I was very interested and excited about reading the series expecting to learn more about the characters introduced. I was both shocked and intriqued when diving into the second book of the series to learn that the writer went a very different way. She made each book about different characters with very little, if any, reference to the characters in the previous books. While the characters and stories were interesting I found myself a bit bored mid way through the series. Each character, each book, seemed to be a slight variation (at least personality and relationship wise) as the book before. I ended up skipping through many pages of 'mating' anxious to get into the actual story.

Even with all that I will say that I have enjoyed most of the books immensely. My favorite of all to be "Dark Celebration" Book 18 also titled a Carpathian Reunion. I was extremely excited to read about many of my favorite characters.

I do think that part of the reason I struggled with some of the books was due to me reading them back to back. Had I had weeks or months between reading the books I believe I wouldn't have ended up bored. So while I do recommend this series I would seriously advise giving space between each book.
