Hit List (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 20)

My Blurb:

Anita and Edward are called in by fellow U.S. Marshall's to help in a serial killer case. They suspect the serial killer to be a Were and only Anita and Edward can help solve this one.

As it turns out this is exactly where Anita and Edward need to be as they learn from the first crime scene that it is in fact a Were killing other Were's. That can only mean one thing.. The Harlequin.

Lets Talk About It:

Anita Blake is back.... almost.

I really really liked this book.. I stayed up til 3am reading, devouring it. Edward/Ted was in it, Olaf/Otto was in it and that means that there will be some nifty bloody killing going on right? WRONG.

Most of this book was tied up in getting to the bloody killing that never happened. Anita and Edward are working on a case, there are issues with the other Marshals not liking Anita's rep for sleeping with the 'Monsters' they track, then there's the big bad Mama o Darkness out and those who shall not be named (Harlequins) tracking Anita. That sums up this book and like.. the last two.

The first half the book, like I said, I devoured and all the while I'm thinking 'Yeah Anita's back!!' because we've lost her. Yes, the Anita in the first ten or so books is waaaaaay different than the Anita we have now. So I'm thinking she's back but then what... Edwards lovey dovey in spots, Anita is distracted and home sick... huh? What happened to solving the murders? Or defeating The Mother of All Darkness? Ahh... yes.. that we get to 20 or so pages before the book ends.. the rest is tied up in Anita's relationships with everyone. Olaf, Nicky, Domino.. you get the point.

And then the last 3 pages are dedicated to tying up all the lose ends.

Anita Blake stories are like... (and I think Anita and Laurell will LOVE this) getting down and dirty and NOT feeding the ardeur. Yes, all that foreplay with no climax leaving you frustrated even though you've enjoyed it all.. but without the proper ending it's still frustrating.

I also missed having some of the characters I adore being in the books. I swear Jean Claude, Richard (even though he's a drama queen), Nathaniel, Micah, Jason (and many more) who were huge parts of the earlier and mid to late books of this series have been MIA. I will say Laurell has an a way of making me adore the characters she creates. Ethan, the newest addition into the mix, has quickly put himself into the top 5 men of Anita's.

Overall this book is MUCH better than the last two, Bullet and Flirt. A lot closer to the Anita books that captivated me in the first place but still not quite there yet. Now I await the next in the series because love it or hate it I'm a fan!

Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton

So I've been anxiously awaiting the release of Bullet and was really excited due to some of the authors comments on the characters that would be in the book.

Rough summary is: the Mother of All Darkness was NOT killed and has pieces of her self in each member of the Vampire council. She is after Anita and Jean Claude. The Lover of Death starts killing in Atlanta. Lots of metaphysical shit happen (Anitra tries to strengthen their power base by become the Master of Tigers and ties more Tigers to her) and then we get a small summary of the end.

Unfortunately I allowed my hopes to climb too high for this book. Now.. don't get me wrong.. the plot.. was very good.. the story.. very good.. but the end.. very bad. I felt almost as if the story was cut off, stopped and summarized in the final few pages. So I really enjoyed 3/4ths of the book.. and now have to wait anxiously for the next doze hoping to finish off what happened here in Bullet. :o(

I really wish authors would either go fully or don't go at all. I don't enjoy a 'to be continued' when it could be months or even years before the continuation happens.

Books, Books and more Books.. aka What I'm currently reading

Just so you know, anyone who does actually visit and read this, the down time between blog posts is because I'm currently reading a series.

I had thought at once to blog about each book.. but that's a lot of time and a lot of blogs to do. So if I'm reading a series I wait until I've caught up/finished the series before posting. Saves us both time don't you think? I do.

I am currently reading the 4th book of the Leopard Series by Christine Feehan. I'll be blogging about that very soon..

The next books I have lined up waiting to be read are:

- Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton (the newest addition to the Anita Blake series)
- The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner  by Stephanie Meye (the newest addition to the Twilight series releases June 5th)
- The Drake Sisters Series by Christine Feehan
- The Ghostwalker Series by Christine Feehan

This, of course, may change due to release dates on other books that I've got my eye on and how fast I devour the above books. :o)

Meredith Gentry Series, Divine Misdemeanors

This book takes us back to LA with Merry and all of her followers. I was really hoping to read more about the Seelie and UnSeelie courts, Merry and her Kings and of course the Queen but alas this book was not what I was expecting.

Not that it wasn't a good book because it was. I was just hoping the storyline would have been different.

This book reintroduces Merry as a private eye who helps the police department find a murderer. It had it's twists and of course its magical sex (I'd love to add a power or two during the deed!) but overall I felt that it fell short compared to the last few books in the series.

I am hoping, whenever the next comes out, that we will reenter the Courts and get more of Merry in her role as Princess, Queen and Mom!

Meredith Gentry Series by Laurell K. Hamilton

Right before the ending of this authors previous series, Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, I picked up her other series, Meredith Gentry. This series has 8 books including the latest edition "Divine Misdemeanors" which I have not had the chance yet to read.

Since the writer was able to create such a fantastic world in her previous series I expected, hoped, prayed that I would find the same in this one. I got my wish.

Another fantastic series, this time about the Fae and their world(s). This was my first real introduction to Fae and other types of the paranormal that doesn't involve Vampires and Werewolves. The story line was interesting and addictive. I was unable to put the books down and finished the series quicker than I had hoped to.

The main character, Meredith, is by far one of my favorite book characters of all time.

Another series to pick up.. and enjoy.

Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series by Laurell K. Hamilton

This series has a total of 18 books.. including the latest edition "Flirt" which I have not had a chance yet to read.

I first attempted this series shortly after reading the Twilight series and found it REALLY hard to get into. I mean.. I went from a love story to a kick ass Vampire hunter.. WHAT?! I sadly couldn't get past the first few pages before I lost interest.

Now fast forward six months, after I reread Twilight (yes I know, it's sad really). After I read the Sookie Stackhouse series.. I picked up the first book and tried again. I have no idea why it was so hard to read the first time around but the second time around I was hooked! Another series of book crack!

I don't know if it was because it was a longer series than the prior books I've read but I really connected which each of the characters. I was angry at some, hopeful for others, sad.. so many emotions.

The author is fantastic. Able to write and make you feel a part of the story. This was a series that I could not put down.

I am extremely anxious to read Flirt and hope that there are many more books to come!

If you haven't read this series you should! Be prepared for Vampire killing, Zombie raising, Love crazy, Shape shifting mysteries and fun.
