In The Name Of The Father

The life of a writer, this writer, is the most average of existences one could imagine.  I get up every morning, have a cup of coffee, let the dog out and then spend the next 2 hours talking myself into going to the gym.  Really.  Except, sometimes things happen that stay with me, worm their way into my subconscious and then re-emerge some decade later in the form of a story.  Thus; In The Name Of The Father, my suspense/thriller was born from an odd encounter 18 years ago.  The setting is the same, a private beach community of which I am intimately familiar.  The impetus, a strange man walked into my beach cottage one morning and proceeded to start a conversation like we had known one another for years.  He came bearing fresh fruit as a cure for a hangover, which he clearly believed I should be suffering as he knew my sisters and I had been out late the night before.  My younger sister had dialed 911 when I told him to leave.  He did. Without question.  We watched him drive away and took his plate number.  That is what happened before the whole thing burrowed deep into my subconscious.  Last year, like a parasite trying to back out of it's host, In The Name Of The Father  emerged from the depths.

The protagonist, Liz, returns to her beach community 10 years after her best friend was murdered to make peace with the past.  Reuniting with her teenage boyfriend, John, the son of the local preacher, who is now in the Navy and stationed nearby, Liz slowly unravels the events that led her friend to death.

The killer still lurks, stalks and hunts his prey but when he realizes Liz is back, his prize in his crosshairs.  He is waiting, watching for the perfect moment and when it comes?  Sweet release.

Was the guy who wandered into my house a serial killer?  No.  But what if he was?  I had to write the story.

So, I was at the gym just this morning (I did make it there!) and someone stopped me to ask me about the book.  "How do you think up your stories?"  An innocent question, really.  My problem is, do I tell them the truth or make it all up?  Ahhh, the constant writer's dilemma.

In The Name Of The Father is currently Kindle Nation Daily's Thriller of the Week.  In celebration, it is bargain priced at $2.99 this week only!http://www.amazon.com/Name-Father-ebook/dp/B005H0XM4E/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1327410699&sr=1-2-catcorr
