Interview with Ednah Walters - Hot Author of The Guardian Legacy Series

Not only did I get the opportunity to review Betrayed (Book 2 of the Guardian Series - Available August 1st) AND Awakened (Book 1 of the Guardian Series - Available NOW) but I also was able to get an Interview with Ednah Walters herself!

1000 + Books to Read: Hello Ednah! Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for me and my fellow book readers. I'm a big fan of the Guardian Legacy series already! How did this fantastic series get its start?

Ednah Walters:  A dream…a Eureka moment…I wish the Guardian Legacy had such an interesting beginning. I love to read about other cultures and just stumbled upon an article on the kris dagger, an Indonesia/Malaysia weapon believed to be forged by a special element from the heavens and one from earth. According to the Indonesians, Kris daggers had special powers and could protect their wielders. Some were guarded by good spirits and others by bad ones. I got excited about the dagger and started visualizing a group of good guys rallying behind the wielder of the dagger (Guardians) and a bunch of evil bad guys behind the wielder of the evil dagger (demons). I thought about who could have created them, who would wield them…. Since the fallen angels were supposed to have taught humans so many things, including how to use weapons, I gravitated toward the fallen angels. Azazel, the fallen angel who taught humans the art of war and how to forge weapons became the forger of the Guardian’s kris dagger. Then I wanted a teen guy to wield it, but I kept seeing a girl who wasn’t particularly popular or the hottest become special and powerful.
1000 + Books to Read: How do you write your books? Do you use a computer, note pad, etc?

Ednah Walters: I use a computer unless I can’t plug in or when I’m at the playground with my kids. Then I scribble on a notepad.
1000 + Books to Read: Are any of the Characters in your books based off of real life people?

Ednah Walters: I wish. Lil is a cross between my oldest and my middle child. My oldest is very tall, but quiet. My youngest don’t take crap from anyone.

1000 + Books to Read: There are a lot of great Characters in your books, are there any Characters you wish you could write into the book more than you have?

Ednah Walters: Sykes. I want to write Sykes’ story so badly. I even have a girl in mind for him. Maybe I’ll finish with Lil and Bran’s story and tell Sykes’ story.

1000 + Books to Read: I know that a lot of material can get taken out during the editing process, is there anything that got taken out that you wish would have stayed in?

Ednah Walters: I had a scene when Bran goes to give Lil a ride to school after their fight and she decides not to go with him. Since he’s in her driveway and refuses to move, she telepathically pushes his car out of the way and up the road then takes off laughing.

In another scene, Lil leaves the ‘pit’ to find Bran waiting for her (this is after their fight). Here’s part of it

PART OF A DELETED SCENE:

Outside the pit, I found Bran waiting on the opposite wall, his arms crossed. In white dress shirt and black slacks, his hair wet as though he just stepped out of the shower, he looked gorgeous. Something shifted in my chest when he gave me a slow, easy smile.
That smile. It ought to come with a warning label that read, lethal. I grinned back, suddenly feeling unsure of what to say or do.
“Come here.” He beckoned me with his finger.
I took the few steps that brought me into his personal space. His scent teased my senses and his warmth leaped across the space separating us to envelope me. I swallowed and stared at the pulse beating furiously at the base of his neck.
“I don’t want to lose you,” he whispered hoarsely.
My heart squeezed. I looked up into his smoldering emerald green eyes. “You’ll never,” I vowed, wanting to kiss and hold him. “I’m so sorry for the car thing and the bolts, and forbidding you to come to my room,” I whispered, speaking fast.
He smiled, lifting my chin with his finger. Gently, he brushed his lips across mine in a whisper of a caress. We exchanged a breath, so sweet and intoxicating.
“None of that is important now,” he said.
“But it is. I shouldn’t—”
He cut me off, our lips meshing like two parts of a whole. The ying and yang. I flung my arms around his neck and pulled him closer, getting lost in his kiss. Tingling sensations shot from my lips to every part of my body. Goosebumps spread on the surface of my skin, but underneath heated blood accelerated through my veins. I had no idea how much I’d missed him until now.
“I don’t want to fight anymore,” he whispered when his lips eased off mine.
“Me too.” I burrowed in his neck, inhaling his scent.
He cradled the back of my head and held me tight. “Give me a little time and I’ll explain everything.”
“Okay.” I nodded even though I wanted to protest. Maybe one day I’d explain to him keeping secrets destroyed trust. And we couldn’t have a meaningful relationship without trust.
He kissed my temple and whispered, “We’d better go,” then turned and led me toward the foyer. I stayed glued to his side like a Siamese twin, one arm around him. There was so much I wanted to share with him, but for now, I was content being close to him.
“Are you ready for tonight?” he asked.
I sighed. “Not really. I keep imagining things going wrong. What if he doesn’t call? What if I’m not able to ID the medium? I had a horrible dream last night that he didn’t call yet all my friends went crazy.”
He pressed his lips on my temple. “Don’t worry. He’ll call. From what Remy and the others told me last night, he’s desperate to connect with you.” We entered the foyer and he stopped, causing me to do the same. “Do you mind if I sit in your Psi class?”
For a moment, I stared blankly at him. Then it dawned on me. Oh crap! I’d been so preoccupied with the party I’d completely forgotten about Mrs. D’s request to talk to her students.

1000 + Books to Read: If Bran wasn't in the picture who would Lil most likely end up dating, Remy or Sykes?

Ednah Walters: I’ve often wondered about that. What do you guys think?
Sykes makes her laugh, but he would probably break her heart because he’s such a flirt.  Or maybe having Lil’s love and watching over her would make him mature.
Remy is as dependable as Bran, and after moving around with her grandfather, Lil needs someone solid, someone she can depend on. On the other hand, Remy is too focused on being a hunter and might not be there for Lil. So I’d say Sykes.
1000 + Books to Read: I've seen the brief info on your website that you ARE working on Book number 3 in the Guardian Legacy Series, can you give my readers a little of what to expect next from the Guardian gang?

Ednah Walters: Book 3, HUNTED, is probably going to be the hardest one to write because the Guardians faces their worst enemy, an enemy they can’t kill. They’ll have to find a way to deal with it…and its army. Lil is also going through changes that will totally screw with Bran’s head. Keeping the promise he gave her grandfather is going to be nearly impossible.

1000 + Books to Read: Speaking of HUNTED, I know it's probably too soon to ask but I have to anyway, any idea of when we can expect it to come out?
Ednah Walters: I hope to finish it sometime in the fall. Then it’s up to my editor. I’d love to have it out by Spring or maybe late winter (February).
1000 + Books to Read: Are there any other projects/books you have going on that my readers and I can check out while we wait for Book 3?
Ednah Walters: Not unless you read adult romance. If you do, I have the book on the Fitzgerald family. Slow Burn (book 1 in the series, Ashley’s story, was released in May) and Mine Until Dawn (Jade’s story was released July) and Kiss Me Crazy (Baron’s story, will be out in November)

A Big THANK YOU to Ednah Walters for taking the time out!! Make sure you all check out the review (found here) and get Awakened and Betrayed. You WON'T regret it!!

My Blurb:

Lil finds herself stuck in the middle of a betrayal by someone close to her as her father gains knowledge of her through this person. Is it one of her friends? One of her fellow trainees? Is it Bran the one she loves?

The only way to find out for sure is to enter the lair of the lion.

Lets Talk About It:

I am head over heels in love with this series. If you missed the first book, Awakened, you can see the review here. As soon as I finished Awakened I eagerly checked out EdnahWalters.com to see when the next book was coming out. And then some how fate was on my side and I was able to obtain an ARC (thank you fate, google, Stacey, and Ednah!!)

Oh how the second book did not disappoint! Lil continues on with her training, her life at school, her growing relationship with Bran and when all seems to be going good, BAM, enter her father to mess it all up.

One heck of a book. From start to finish, from training to war, and through out the whole book you think you know who the betrayal has come from but oh no. So wrong are we all!

This series, this book, captivates you much like the Twilight series did and enters you into a world that not only seems real but you want to be in. You want to know Lil and Bran and Sykes and all the other characters in the book. I absolutely love when an Author is able to pull you in so completely you almost forget it's fiction and that you aren't really there with everyone along the way. Ednah Walters has mastered this in her writing.

Make sure you check out Awakened and be ready to pick up Betrayed on August 1st!

 My Blurb:

Lil is a normal 16 year old girl. Well, as normal as a Gypsy girl can be. That is until the voices start in her head and one in particular won't leave her be.

His name is Bran, a mysterious boy who looks like an angel but is really a demon. Half a demon that is and Lil has fallen for him.

Lil's life is turned upside when she learns her true nature is not that of a Gypsy but her Grandfathers lineage of Guardians. Guardians who protect the souls of humans while battling the Demons who try to steal them. And she must use her new found powers to save the ones she loves.

Is love strong enough to battle the powers of evil? Lil will find out..

 Lets Talk About It:

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Loved, loved, loved it.

I couldn't finish this book fast enough and even then didn't really want it to end.

The relationships between all of the characters, Lil, her Grandfather, Bran and even the other Trainees were so real it felt like I could know these people.

This is a YA book, sort of like Twilight, except its Guardians vs Demons. Lil is in the center of it all. She has no clue about any of this until her powers come into play on her 16th birthday. The whole time she thought she was part of a Gypsy family, traveling with her grandfather.

She uncovers so much about her family's history and even the truth about her parents. She has to face not only life in a new town, new highschool, but new powers, powers that she had no idea even existed.

Such a great book from start to finish.

I can't wait for the next book in this series, Betrayed, to come out!
