Credo's Hope by Alison Naomi Holt

"Introducing Detective ALEXANDRA WOLFE, a fresh, funny, tough cop who skates on the edge of the law in her quest for justice. A Mafia boss, a hunky bi-sexual nurse, Alex’s rescued mutt, Tessa, and her exuberant best friend, MEGAN, help Alex turn her everyday life as a detective upside down.

Six years ago, Brian McClelland was murdered, and his brother was convicted of shooting him. When Megan bullies Alex into reviewing the case, Alex discovers that her captain was the chief investigator who overlooked evidence that might have proved the brother’s innocence.

Against the captain’s orders and Alex’s better judgment, she unofficially re-opens the case and finds herself following a twisted investigative trail left by the murder victim. The problem is, she has no idea what he was investigating or whether his investigation ultimately led to his death.

As she digs into clues from the past, she finds herself at the doorstep of the beautiful and daunting Giannina Angelino, who just happens to be the head of the Angelino Crime Family. Things really heat up for Alex when she starts to receive unsolicited help from the mafia, and the police department, once again orders her to stay away from the murder investigation and from any connections with organized crime. This in itself proves difficult since Gianina doesn’t answer to Alex’s chain of command and continues to help wherever and whenever she sees fit.

Alex’s unorthodox methods blur her personal and professional lives and when her two worlds collide, keeping her day job becomes the least of her worries as Alex struggles to keep from following the dead man’s trail straight to her own demise.(Description by Author on Smashwords)

Lets Talk About It:

Credo's Hope is a light read surrounding the life of a female detective named Alex Wolfe. Alex is quite a character, she's funny and gets herself into a lot of sticky situations. In this book she happens to find herself investigating a closed case that was actually closed by a Captain in the Police Department. As you can imagine that didn't sit too well with him.

The story was on the lighthearted side. Definitively not what I was expecting after having read her previous novel, The Door at the Top of the Stairs. In fact, I kind of wish I could go back and read Credo's Hope prior to reading her other book because I think I may have ended up enjoying it more without having the comparison.

After reading both books I can say that the Author really knows how to tell a story! You'd be happy with any selection from this Author.

The Door at the Top of the Stairs

"Undercover officer Jesse Shaunessy is kidnapped and tortured, then thrown away by her department as damaged goods. The mind is a powerful ally, and 26-year-old Jesse has no memory of the abduction or the subsequent torture. Inevitably, the protective walls carefully constructed by her subconscious are beginning to crumble. Insanity, friendship, and redemption are all possibilities dependent upon one choice, one gamble, and two determined women who must risk everything to save one lost soul."(Description by Author on Smashwords)

Lets Talk About It:

Wowee.

This book was amazing, powerful and I couldn't put it down.

When I read the description of the book I wasn't expecting what was beyond the cover. I felt as if I were Jesse, reliving these terrifying events that stole part of her life. I.. felt.. it. Such an emotional roller coaster and such amazing characters.

There were times I laughed, times I cried, times I wanted to shout to Ryland and tell her to stop it! I haven't had a book capture me like this in a long time. To where I don't just want to read it... I have to read it. Where it's just as important to me to finish as it is to Jesse.

These characters.. were truly outstanding and developed so well. In fact Morgan, I believe, was written after my grandmothers sister Joe. Morgan was that real to me. She's someone I know.

All I can say is when you decided (not if) be prepared to sink yourself into this powerful, emotional, wonderful story of tragedy, hope, inspiration, courage and friendship.
