What would YOU do?

So.. I'm sure you've all noticed we've kind of disappeared from the bloggy world for a bit.. off and on.. over the last couple of years. It's not something I'm happy about and yet its happened a couple of times. I'm going to ask for your advice, honesty and from there.. well, I guess we'll see.

The reason I created this blog was really simple: I LOVE books.. and I LOVE to talk about books. I had few to talk books with. My close friends aren't readers and those that are don't read what I do. That's how 1000 + Books to Read was born.

And then it grew into something completely different. All of a sudden I was getting review requests like crazy and being so happy that someone actually wanted ME to read their book I accepted. Reviewed, accepted, reviewed, accepted. Then people started offering to give me books to give to my readers! WHOA talk about blown freakin away. Yes, yes, yes! Review, Giveaway, Review and Giveaway! Things got too much for me on my own so I enlisted the help of the amazing Jennifer aka Jenn aka blogger over at A Night Owls Corner and between the two of us we Reviewed, Giveaway, Interviewed and Guest posted all over the place. Until I got overwhelmed and noticed... I wasn't TALKING to anyone.

Some how I got swept away in a lovely wave full of wonderful things that had nothing to do with the vision I had when I created this site. I lost focus on what MY purpose was and I stopped. Stopped blogging, stopped reviewing.. even stopped reading for a bit.

Now.. I'm back.. well not back back, but I'm back to reading again. I'm back to loving books and loving to talk about books. I love all the amazing Authors and Readers and Publicists that I've met.. that hasn't changed. What has changed is that I don't want to go back to what this became. I want to read and talk about the books and authors I love with the people who love them too. So my friends.. how does one go about that? I'm not so sure. I guess the first start is this.. telling you what happened, why it happened and where we are at now.

We are active on Facebook. We get to TALK there and *GASP* you guys talk back! Here... here we don't talk to each other a lot. Even on Review posts of fantastical books.. we don't talk about it. We review it and.. and what? Well, nothing really.. but its there.

I want to change that. I want to TALK to you all about books and authors and books made into movies and actors who are playing our favorite characters in said movie.

What do you think? How do you become a blog that TALKS to people and people talk back instead of a Review/GuestPost/Giveaway/Interview media publicity media blog? If this were your blog and you felt this way.. what would you do? I'm looking for ideas, a fresh start. What makes you stop by a blog and talk to them?

no idea, I add quite a few books I see posted on fb, from blogs, that peek my interest, so that I can find them later (I add them to my goodreads account). If they are something that I really really am interested in, I put them onto amazon.ca wish list right away (but it generally would be book 2 of a series) I don't read blogs much except for sweeps (and I appreciate when I do win, although competition is stiff) I've discovered some GREAT authors due to free books I've won and would never have found otherwise. There is quite honestly, too many books, too little time.

Good luck with your vision, and I hope you can find a way to keep yourself happy

That's a tough question, and a really good one!

And like binabug, I don't have a good suggestion...partly because you're kind of the only one who knows what works for you. But I think as long as you're asking yourself the question when you post, you'll totally figure it out.

Looking forward to what you come up with.

Binabug thanks for your input. You are right there are way too many books and so little time to read them all. I'm glad you find new books through the different social media sites.. That's the one part I love, finding great books that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise.

:o)

HI I am new to you site and have no back ground in Blogging, but I participated in a contest of sorts recently and wondered what would happen if this was done on a weekly scale. There were a group of authors that had run a contest on their blogs/websites to get one winner each. Then on a specific time and day we all logged into a conference call of sorts and got to talk to the authors. The readers were ecstatic to actually talk to the authors and ask questions about their characters and writing, some personal were asked as well. It was awesome. You seem to be a very giving person who loves to help indie authors out there. I don't know if there is a way to have a live chat with the author of a book each week with other readers that can join in and enjoy your love and chat. Since I am not sure how much work it is, I am sorry if this doesn't help, but I can tell you the authors and readers were totally pumped up about the success and connections made.

Kathleen, first off..welcome! Thanks for stopping by and sharing with me what you've seen work. I've never heard of a conference call between Authors and Readers.. That's different from the 'norm'and can totally see how that would be something people would enjoy. To be honest I'm not sure if I'd have the time to dedicate to something like that but its a wonderful idea that I may have to look into further.. Who knows once a month or every few months could be something cool to do!

What about creating/joining a forum? A lot of people go to Goodreads, but a lot of people complain about it too.
How about podcasts? You can pick an agenda that you get to discuss with your writer friends/authors/fans/whomever.
What about getting together with other bloggers/friends/reading enthusiasts and starting a book-ring or something along the lines of an online/blog booklover magazine? It could incorporate both reviews, excerpts, as well as "editorials" which is where you get to talk, which is what you wanted to do in the first place.
Just a few ideas. I have no idea if they'll work for you or not (or how much work would be involved.)
Have fun, anyway!
Anyway, I think as long

William, great ideas! I was actually thinking of forums/discussion style prior to this post going up and it's one I think I'm going to research a bit more. Google + also has hangouts which I think is pretty cool, though I've never done one.

Thanks for the ideas and I will for sure be working on the have fun part! =D

I'm new here too! Hi! I found you on FB, and I find, like you, that everybody gets involved in the conversation there but not in the blog world. I an an author, and I have a blog, and a website, but feel that FB is where I 'talk' most. Next month I will for the first time be doing a podcast reading as a guest spot on another blog and I have no idea what to expect, but feel at least it's novel and interactive. Good luck with what you decide!
