"In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die…or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for." (Description by Author on Amazon)

Lets Talk About It:
First off let me say that this is the FIRST Julie Kagawa book I've read and whoa what a book!
I know everyone is thinking 'Oh not another YA Vampire book', I was thinking a bit of the same even though I happen to like YA Vampire books. When I tell you this book is NOTHING like Twilight trust me, it's NOTHING like Twilight. And I liked Twilight.
This reminded me a bit of the Hunger games not in storyline but in scenery. The low class were segregated from the middle class and the high class were locked up in the middle of it all with the best of everything. The high class in this book were the Vampires. There were also minor things between the main character that reminded me of the other book. Which if there were any book to be compared to right now.. you want it to be the hottest out at that time.
From the very first page I was caught up. Allie is a fantastic strong lead character, she is a fighter, a survivor.. and she wants to live, even if that means turning into the one thing she hates: a Vampire. In the scene were she has to decide whether she will become a Vamp or not, I was impressed. You could almost feel her internal war with wanting to live and yet detesting Vamps so much that she may want to die than to become one. Allie is probably the best YA female lead I've read to date.
I also really liked how within this one book Julie Kagawa has set the stage for many possible storylines in future books. Julie told just enough to give a decent history to each of her characters and the world in general that she has created without having it be at the forefront of the actual story.
This book was a thrill ride of adventure, fast paced action, determination, unexpected friendships, love and heartbreak. When reading be prepared to have your expectations broken. You can not and will not guess what is going to happen next. Also be prepared to be up all night, once you start this book you won't be able to stop.
I'm also extremely excited to hear that this Book series (yay it's a series) has also been picked up Palomar pictures! Book 2, untitled as of now, appears to be coming out in 2013.
