Guest Post: Jonathan Gould, Author of Doodling and Flidderbugs

 A very polite guest post

Hello. My name is Jonathan Gould and I’m very excited to be a guest of 1000 + Books to Read.

When I was invited to do this guest post, I was a little bit nervous. When being a guest, it’s always important to behave appropriately and give the right impression. So I’ve decided that this is going to be an extremely polite guest post.

Anyway, lovely to meet you and thank-you so much for inviting me. Do you mind if I sit down? Thank-you. Gosh this place looks nice. The decorators have done a lovely job. Would I like a drink? Only if it’s not going to be too much bother for you. Thank-you so much, again.

I guess we really should make a bit of pleasant conversation. Did I tell you that I’ve written a book? I really hope you don’t think it’s forward of me to mention it. I wouldn’t want to appear vulgar.

Anyway, I have written a book. It’s called Doodling and, well maybe I shouldn’t say more because it’s actually rather silly. Oh, all right, but only because you insisted. It’s about a man who falls off the world. No, not because he’s clumsy. It’s because the world is moving too fast for him. And then he has all sorts of highly unexpected and peculiar adventures. But the really strange thing is that people actually seem to like it. I guess there’s no accounting for taste. They even say it’s a bit like Douglas Adams or Lewis Carroll. Well actually I also say that, but only if people ask.

Did I happen to mention that I’ve written another book? Are you sure you don’t mind me going on about this? I’m afraid this one is also rather silly. It’s called Flidderbugs and it’s about a bunch of insects who spend the whole time arguing about pointless and inconsequential things. Apparently it’s some sort of satire. Don’t ask me, I just wrote it. Should I talk about myself? Really, I’m far too modest for that sort of thing. Please stop me if I go on for too long. I live in Melbourne, Australia and I’ve been writing my silly stories for over ten years – far too long really if you ask me. I’ve also written comedy sketches for the theatre and radio – but they’ve all been funny in a nice and polite sort of way. Well at least most of them have.

Well, I probably ought to be going now. You’ve probably had enough of me to last a lifetime. Thanks-you so much for having me. It really was a pleasure to visit. I hope you think I’ve behaved myself. I really didn’t mean to drop that glass of sherry on the carpet. And the cheese and crackers stuck to the ceiling couldn’t possibly be my fault.

I’d be happy to return the favour. Please come and visit me at http://daglit.blogspot.com, like me (I’m very likable) at http://www.facebook.com/jonathangouldwriter and follow me (but please not too closely) at http://twitter.com/jonno_go
