Guest Post: Kymberlee Burks-Miller
I am so thankful to 1000 + Books to Read for having me on as a guest poster. My name
is Kymberlee Burks-Miller and I am the author of Compulsion, the debut novel in The Moon
Coven Series. I thought that I would talk a little bit about getting ready for a book appearance.
I am actually preparing for my first appearance as I type this. I will be at my local library on
Saturday March 3rd from 11am-1pm.
When I first spoke with the library, I was over the moon with excitement. As the day in
question is racing towards me, I am nervous as all get out. I don't think that the fact that I was to
read an excerpt or the question and answer session that I was going to do actually registered with me. I have never been great at large groups. I am much more comfortable with more intimate situations. And since this is shaping up to be one of those large gatherings that frighten me, I decided that I should map out the event. The way that I would map out a book.
I chose two (2) passages from Compulsion that would not give away anything, but entice
a young reader. I made sure that I had plenty of posters, bookmarks and a special surprise for
everyone that attends. I also gathered a list of books and authors that I could recommend to
participants of the event. Therefore, giving more indie authors a little more exposure. I have the
paperbacks for sale and I am ready with a list of important talking points.
I want to see where their young minds are. I was informed that alot of the teens attending
wanted to be journalists, writers, poets and authors. I want them to be prepared for the craziness that they will step into with this particular career choice. But, I also want them to hear first hand the joy that it can bring to your life. I want to give them both sides of the proverbial coin.
If any of this goes smoothly, I will report back and let you know. But...the best piece of
advice that I have been given was this; "Kymberlee, just have fun with it! Let them see what we
see everyday and it will go smoothly." I like this advice. I have prepared and I am ready! Bring
on the young adults!
