Misfit by Jon Skovron

Misfit

"Jael has always felt like a freak. She’s never kissed a boy, she never knew her mom, and her dad’s always been superstrict—but that’s probably because her mom was a demon, which makes Jael half demon and most definitely not a normal sophomore girl. On her sixteenth birthday, a mysterious present unlocks her family’s dangerous history and Jael’s untapped potential. What was merely an embarrassing secret before becomes a terrifying reality. Jael must learn to master her demon side in order to take on a vindictive Duke of Hell, while also dealing with a twisted priest, best-friend drama, and a spacey blond skater boy who may have hidden depths.Author Jon Skovron takes on the dark side of human nature with his signature funny, heartfelt prose."(Description by Author on Amazon.com)

My Blurb:

Jael's life has always been different than the normal 16 year olds. Moving every 2 years to keep a Demon off your trail is not normal. Being the daughter of a Demon and a Mortal is not normal. Jael longs to be normal. Longs to live in one place, have friends and a normal teenage life. That is until her 16th birthday comes along and her grumpy old Demon slayer Dad who, up to this point, never speaks of her Mother, gives Jael a gift from her Mother. The gift of all her Demon powers.

With her new powers emerging Jael must make the choice: Run and hide or stay and fight.

Lets Talk About It:

It took me a little bit to really get into Misfit. You see, beyond the extremely cool cover and intriguing description there were layers to this book that I did not expect. Here I'm expecting this Young Adult Demoness to have the usual Twlight-ish feel to it and boy was I wrong.

Jon Skovron took the YA Paranormal genres 'standard' and flipped it then whipped it into something new and it was fantastic!

Not only do we get to experience Jael turning into this powerful young Demoness halfbreed and her teenage world, we also get to see glimpses into the past that show how Jael came to be and why things are the way they are. These glimpses took this book to another level than what I was orginally expecting. I will say that when the first glimpse into past took place I was a bit confused. Only because I don't recall being given a name to Jael's father before but that's a pretty small thing to complain about.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Misfit and hope that this is the first of a long series.
